Livingston Ged Nixon admitted the Livi board never wanted bulleted boss Gareth Evans as manager and there was no player involvement in the decision.

Evans was axed at a meeting on Thursday, before director of football John Collins quit in protest.

And speaking after Livi’s 4-1 win over Airdrie, Nixon said: “When John Hughes left we sat down with John Collins and asked, ‘What do you want to do, how do you want to move this on?’

“He said he thought Gareth should step up.

“I think it is fair to say at that time we voiced our concerns.

“We didn’t think, as good a coach as Gareth was, we did not feel he was the natural fit for a first team manager.

“Not everyone is cut out for that job.

“It is a special sort of job.

“I don’t think Gareth, we felt, had all the tools in the locker to cut his own mark in the football club.

Unfortunately, I think we have been proven to be correct. “

Evans was relieved of his duties as a meeting on Thursday, with Collins handing in his resignation in protest.

Media reports claimed a dressing room coup may have been behind the decision - which have since been rubbished by players and boardroom members.”
