Life through the lens for Livingston camera men
Livingston

Jan 10 2013

by Kieran Westbrook, West Lothian Courier

While Livingston fans cheer on their team from the comfort of seats in the stands at Almondvale, two men tower above them capturing every moment of the match.

Strapped into harnesses, camcorder in hand and wrapped up in five layers of clothing, Livi TV cameramen Peter Glasgow and Stuart McRae film the action of every Livingston match before uploading the coverage on to the club’s website.

The pair are never far from the action as they film home matches from their birds’ nest on the roof at Almondvale.

Peter and Stuart can also be seen capturing the action at away matches, too.

The Livi supporters teamed up to offer the film highlights in April 2008 after it was suggested by David Stoker, who is the Livi for Life Supporters Trust representative on the club’s board of directors.

While Peter took on the role of cameraman, Stuart agreed to work behind the scenes uploading footage to the website.

To start with, the men covered only home matches, including their first match against St Johnstone.

Then, as their confidence grew, they took on the job of recording the highlights of away games.

The pair have now covered 184 games and have no plans to stop.

Peter said: “It’s something that both of us really enjoy doing.

“We’re at a stage where we think we’re producing a good product and when we look back at the early days, we’ve improved a lot.

“The hardest thing is to not jump or celebrate when Livi score because that affects the quality of the picture.

“But that’s when I’m happiest. It reminds me that the job I’m doing is there to make other Livi fans watch it and enjoy the highlights.”

And while the pair’s first filming vantage point was inside the stadium, at the start of last season they made the move to the roof.

Tarpaulin was fitted to protect them from the elements – but the dizzying heights of their filming perch is enough to turn your stomach.

Neither Peter or Stuart would change their location, however.

Peter said: “We were a bit concerned about the weather up there and it can be a bit hairy when the roof moves in really strong wind, but the view is great and we’re all harnessed in, so it’s safe.

“We wrap up in as many layers as we possibly can regardless of whether it’s a nice day or not.

“It gets very cold being so high up.

“But it’s the perfect view for the game and we love it up there filming all the matches!”
