Livingston versus Falkirk match report

Nov 22 2012

by George Johnston, West Lothian Courier

Keaghan Jacobs dedicated his winning goal to departing manager John Hughes after Livingston beat Falkirk on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder charged onto the end of a Tony Andreu mis-hit strike to follow in before applying a pin-point finish.

And after running out 2-1 winners against Steven Pressley side, Jacobs dedicated the goal to Hughes.

He said: “That one was for Yogi.

“We played the way he was teaching us to play and it was great to get one over his old club.

“I’ve been a strange week because of him leaving so suddenly, but he was a great manager and we’ll miss him.

“It’s always great to grab a goal and especially one that ends up being the winner.

“We’re on a good run right now and we’re confident. But we know we’ve got a tough couple of games coming up and we will need to play well this weekend.”

Livi played some of their best passing football so far this season and controlled the midfield against a Falkirk side clearly struggling for form.

Jacobs and Marc McNulty linked up early on with the latter forcing a fine save from Falkirk shot-stopper Michael McGovern.

But there was nothing the goalie could do about McNulty’s next effort after he fired home from a Stefan Scougall set-up.

McNulty was also heavily involved in the second Livi goal midway through the second half.

McNulty picked up a loose ball on the right and played in Andreu whose swinging shot went off target and into the path of Jacobs who applied the finish.

Falkirk battled back and cut the lead to a single goal.

Livi ‘keeper Andy McNeil was beaten in the air at a corner and the ball fell to Falkirk sub Conor McGrandles who took advantage and volleyed into the empty net.

But with only six minutes remaining, Livingston held on to extend their unbeaten run to six games, which includes four wins.

Livingston move up to fourth ahead of Raith Rovers on goal difference. The Lions’ fine form has also moved to within seven points of the top after Partick Thistle ,who they face this weekend, suffered a shock defeat to Hamilton.
