Livingston versus Partick Thistle match report
Livingston McNulty

Jan 10 2013

by Kieran Westbrook, West Lothian Courier

A last-minute strike from Marc McNulty handed Livingston a share of the spoils against Partick Thistle.

The Livi hitman stroked the ball home after a cut-back from Stefan Scougall as the Lions battled from a goal down twice to draw.

And after grabbing his 10th goal of the season in all competition, he said: “It feels a bit like a win – to score so late on.

“It’s a big result for us because we’ve got a few games in hand and we can push further up the league.

“I think we played some nice football and we definitely deserved something out of the game.”

McNulty’s goal came after the Livi forward was denied a clear-cut spot-kick as the Lions hunted for their second-half equaliser.

And he reckoned the goal was justice for the earlier decision.

He added: “I thought my penalty was a penalty.

“I saw the ball in the box and I tried to nick it away, but I’ve been tripped up by the defender.

“I’m not one for diving or anything like that.”

Livingston threatened first when Scougall dummied a Kevin McCann pass to Liam Fox who curled his effort wide.

Partick grabbed the lead when Kris Doolan’s strike was saved by Andy McNeil before rebounding off him , the post, and into the net on 27 minutes.

But Tony Andreu pulled Livi level a minute later when he collected a loose ball and lashed it from 20 yards past Graeme Smith.

And it was raining goals when Steven Craig headed home a fine Aaron Sinclair cross on 32 minutes as Thistle reclaimed the lead at the interval.

If Thistle edged the opening 45 minutes, the second half belonged to Livi who dominated throughout.

McNulty charged past Sinclair and crossed to Iain Russell whose header was turned around the post by Smith.

Paul Paton nearly clinched the win with a sensational 35-yard thunderbolt but the strike cleared the crossbar.

McNulty was denied a spot-kick on 75 minutes before Thistle broke up the pitch and should have sealed the win.

Sean Welsh sent Craig clear but McNeil pulled off a great save to keep Livi in the game.

Sub Jordan Morton smashed the crossbar from a free-kick before Jags’ Welsh hit the bar too before being sent off for a second booking.

And McNulty fired home an injury time leveller to end the frantic and exciting clash with both sides sharing the points.

The draw means Livi slide to sixth after Raith Rovers’ 2-0 win over Airdrie United, while Partick sit third.
