Jason Talbot is determined to help Livingston win the First Division and earn a new contract as he prepares to return from long-term injury.
The popular left-back is set for a return in February after spending eight months out with a ruptured acute cruciate ligament.
His contract expires in the summer and he is focused on winning a new deal and helping resurgent Livingston challenge for the title.
And he admits he has a renewed focus after spending so long out of action. He said: “I am looking forward to coming into a winning team which is playing good football. I feel we have the best squad of players in the league.
“Our position (fourth) doesn’t show that, but we are in good stead to push on, and hopefully come the end of the season, be sitting at the top.
“That would be amazing and I think that is everyone’s goal in the changing room — it is certainly my goal.”
He added: “I will do what I can for the club with the time I have left.
“My contract is up at the end of the season and I am playing for a contract and to get the club as high up the league as possible.
“It is time for me to show what I have got in the tank and hopefully I will get another contract.”
Talbot has been out of action since suffering the injury during Livi’s 3-1 defeat to Ross County last April.
He went under the knife in late May and has undergone months of rehabilitation work at both Livingston’s physio facilities and at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
He has been focusing all his energies on making a full recovery.
And Talbot now feels better than ever. He said: “I know now from this injury that your career is short and time is precious.
“Apart from my family, football is the most important thing.
“I feel more focused now than I ever have been. I can’t wait to get back.”
